Sihanoukville To Host Southeast Asian Sailing Championship 2021

Sihanoukville: The Ministry of Tourism announced it has selected Preah Sihanouk Province as the venue for the six-day Southeast Asian Sailing Championships 2021, from 12-17 December. This announcement was made in the presence of the Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 2021 South East Asian Championships, Thong Khon, and the Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, Kouch Chamroeun, on Sunday evening at Sokha Beach.

The Minister of Tourism stated that Cambodia’s ability to host the Southeast Asian Sailing Championship in Preah Sihanouk Province shows the success of the efforts made by the Royal Government of Cambodia in the fight against Covid-19, ensuring a return of vaccination tourism, which Prime Minister Hun Sen has worked hard to address.

He also stated that this event will give Cambodia the chance to show the world the beauty of its coast and development. The representative of the Sailing Federation from Singapore also praised the coast in Preah Sihanouk Province, which he said he considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Governor Kouch Chamroeun said that the hosting of this event is unprecedented in the history of Cambodia and signals the start of a new era for Preah Sihanouk Province, who will be co-organizing the sailing championship with the International Competition Card Organizing Committee and a team of athletes from Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. There are 27 national and international athletes, along with 22 boats, expected to take part in the championship.

The organization of the Southeast Asian Sailing Championship 2021 is expected to further promote Preah Sihanouk Province on both a national and international stage, including its beautiful beaches, islands, international ports and airport, eco-tourism resorts, rich natural resources, and brand new infrastructures (37 urban roads, wastewater treatment plants and other achievements were recently inaugurated in the province by Prime Minister Hun Sen).

The Sihanoukville Provincial Administration has stated that it will provide a combined security force of more than 1,000 people to ensure the safety and security of all national and international athletes taking part in the competition.
